The Karlnet CPE from CWLab and others is an RG-1000 w/ Karlnet already loaded, in a NEMA box modified to accept POE.  Add a pigtail to your antenna or get an antenna with a sufficiently sized pigtail an you are set.  In all you will have about $350 or so tied up once you add the antenna ($35-50) and the mount (Dss style $12).

 

CPE $275

Antenna $35

Mount $12

TOTAL $322

 

$99.00?  ROFLMAO good luck...we can all dream.  Seriously though...the karlnet stuff seems great because it is a completely manageable ethernet CPE.

I can pick up a RG-1100 for $150 at any of several places (http://shopper.cnet.com/shopping/resellers/0-11644-311-6632196-3.html?fl=0&tag=st.sh.11644-311-6632196.sort.price), if I can add only a $50 or so software to that I am thinking I have a hella-good CPE for a pretty darn low price..

 

You are right though, PoE would perfect the setup. I am not trying to nickel and dime anyone, I am just trying as an about-to-be-wisp to keep my prices as low as possible to make my offering as attractive as possible to customers. 

 

Ideally it would be PoE and be in a weatherproof box with a small (8dBi?) patch antenna on it for exterior mounting... and all for $99.99 !  And while I am at it, I want a pony too! :)

 

Just my thoughts.. they are worth what you paid for 'em.

I think Charles at CWLab has the best deal going for a CPE with KarlNet.  I haven't had an opportunity to try it out yet, but it looks good to me.  It is an RG1000 with POE and Karlnet.  Seems like $275.00 was the price.

Is there a (cheap) single user KarlNet software for the RG-1000/RG-1100 ? 

 

Is the Lucent WavePOINT II AP the same hardware as the Orinoco AP-1000?  Will it run the same (KarlNet) firmware?

 

Also, what have other people with a KarlNet infrastructure been using successfully as a cheap CPE?
