This question was asked by somebody while setting up for a multi
operation in Dallas last week. The problem traced to a bug in CT in
which the Icom 781 went key down when CT is first brought up.
Sending anything would clear the condition, but the CW port
should be cleared to the key up position when the program is
loaded. In our configuration, 3 of the rigs used a parallel port
interface for keying and the 4th used the comm port. I am pretty
sure the comm interface was the one on the IC781, and thus that
would be the source of the problem.
Other bugs to report...
At several points in the contest the rig interfaces would stop
working. This happened at most of the operating positions, if not all
of them. Two of these used TS-850s, one the IC781 and one the
FT1000MP. I am not sure the FT1000MP ever had this problem,
but the others all did. Re-booting the computers would show that
the comm ports had disappeared from the BIOS screen that first
comes up (AMI BIOS). Turning the computers completely off, then
on again - would fix the problem.
At at least one operating position (involving a TS850) the band map
wasn;t working right. When you selected a spot off the band map,
it would select a different spot and frequency and set the radio to
the frequency of the wrong spot. As I avoided use of this feature for
the rest of the contest (I hate bugs) I don't know how many other
postions had this problem. Others were using the band map
features a lot without a problem.
Other than these small problems, CT operation went pretty
smooth.
