look for a mouse conflict or similar. I have a serial cable I used at
xz1n and it worked fine on several different machines
a mouse or a modem hanging on the port can do this even if you are in dos
mode and dont load any drivers for them
also, do you have more than 2 serial ports?
there are ONLY 2 interrupts available for serial stuff in a normal PC..
any more than 2 serial ports is a fantasy, unless you load complex drivers
or disable a bunch of other stuff. I've made 4 work, but used the
parallel port interrupts (5 & 7) to make it happen, and that makes it odd
for most software.
