Yuri,

Years ago, when WAEDC switched to a 24 hour format, I thought that was ridiculous and said so, and I stopped operating in it until they changed the rules back to allow 36 hours operating time again.

I'm NOT ok with the current RDXC rules and never have been, which is why I choose NOT to participate in it. I have little free time on the weekends, so what time I do have I use to participate in contests that are fun for me; contests with unfair and overly punitive rules detract from that and do NOT get my support. Other ops may feel differently.

I wonder why everyone is Okay then with even more ridiculous rules in RDXC - if one of the parties makes mistake in the call or exchange, the QSO is being removed from both LOGs. And this contest was among the most valuable contests for WRTC selection!
We can't control other party's copying and/or logging skills.
Especially with the army of modern "point-and-click'ers".

Good to know the background.

I think I would be good with 1 QSO. I.e., no uniques. Or maybe even 2. But 5 is just too much. And it is impossible for the participants to know which contacts will count or not.

hello

That rule was added in the rules at my express request to the organizer, Ed PY4WAS, after more than 15 years ago, in that contest, they deducted me more than 20% from my score, which was my last participation in that contest.

When I asked Ed why there was so much discount, he told me because I had many uniques in my log, and that if they were not in at least 5 logs, they were not valid. So I told him that if it was that way, please add it to the rules.

This harms somewhat rare stations, Africa, the Caribbean, etc., with little activity, since they are communicated through the DXCC and not because they are participating in the contest.

Good or bad, this is how they calculate the score and now this is how it is written in the rules so that everyone can choose if they participate with serious intentions or not.

It's been so long now (10yrs?) I can't honestly recall the details of
why I stopped playing in this one single-op many years ago. May have
been a wonky scoring rule too, as my error rates, like most serious to
semi-serious players tend to be on the lower side of average and I
pride myself on that as I am sure many of you do.

I did grudgingly agree to enter 4yrs ago as part of a (Canadian) "RAC"
distributed m/m, but was only on a few hours and didn't have to do
anything with logs, myself.

For years after I stopped playing SO (I think in +/-2013-iirc?) they
would send me a yearly reminder or three by email even though I asked
the organizer to stop many many times and they kept telling me they
would, but the emails just seemed to increase.

I basically had to threaten them to stop spamming me it got so bad
with repeated requests to play in the contest, please come back or whatever. (every email was different) (I see at least one other poster mentioned
something along this line and I am pretty sure they never stopped
entirely, so I just blacklisted a bunch of their emails so I never see them anymore.
(*hint...this is not a good way to go about getting people in your
contests, by hounding them.)

It all left a bad taste in my mouth....and there aren't very many
contests that will do that, but "MM" did, sadly.

I hope you have better luck with them guys--I won't be back !

CU (not!) in ARRL DX next w/e all you Americans/Canadians
