A few of you have emailed privately and I got my answer.
It's a big "no" ;-(
I guess I'll eventually looking into taking a US license test so I'll have
to see if that's doable remotely and/or where I might
have to go in Maine (?) to take it if remotely taking a test is "not a
thing".
May not be related to my situation, but I know of one individual who took a
test for the UK remotely (from somewhere in North America) and he passed, so
at least one country does do remote testing.

If this is allowed, and I'm single op can I use their home callsign? ie:
W9XXXX or would it have to be VE9AA/W9
(I presume if this is allowed and I am part of a multiop, we'd just use the
W9XXXX call.
