To all RTTY ops, especially in North America:
Don’t forget to jump into the NS RTTY (NCCC Sprint contest, RTTY mode) this
Thursday evening local time (Friday 0145Z). It’s just a half hour, and it’s
WAY FUN!
For those of you using the N1MM+ logger, the contest module to use is
NSRTTYDUPE. If you need a good set of function keys, let me know and I’ll be
happy to share mine with you.
Now, who is the surprise RTTY station going to be this week? The surprise
station is YOU! You who enjoys RTTY, but hasn’t tried this weekly half hour
fun fest yet. The rates are about 75% as high as the frenetic rates in our
sister contest, the weekly CW NS (NCCC Sprint Contest, CW mode). Because of
the lower participation in NS RTTY than for NS CW, NS RTTY has the rule that
you can work for credit the same station on the same band more than once, as
long as you make one intervening QSO between contacts with that same station.
Now, you say, isn’t that boring? NOT AT ALL, because of the other NS RTTY rule
that says you have to QSY at least one KHz after making a QSO that you have
solicited. That's the same QSY concept as in the Big (NCJ) Sprints, except
that in the NS RTTY, the QSY must be at least 1 KHz rather than at least 5 KHz.
As a result of this combination of rules, the NS RTTY contest is very fun and
challenging, as al those who have tried it will attest.
Remember to try 15 meters at the beginning of this Thursday night's contest --
it's been open at 0145Z!
Also, please submit you score to 3830 online at the end of the contest.
Reporting your score, whether it be modest or awesome, helps build enthusiasm
for this contest.
The details of the next NS RTTY:
Friday, 22 April 2022, 0145Z to 0215Z (Thursday, 21 April 2022 in North
America)
-- 1845 to 1915 PDT
-- 2145 to 2215 EDT
-- (others in-between those two time ranges)
-- 160 meters: Try 1804, 1805, or 1806 during the last two minutes
-- 80/40/20/15 meters: +83 to +89 kHz up from the lower band edge
-- Same band dupes are allowed for credit after one intervening QSO
-- 1 kHz QSY rule, otherwise standard NCJ Sprint QSY rules
-- Multipliers are counted anew on each band, so if 4 bands are open, you’ll
get a lot of mults!
-- 100W output power limit
