I did this back in the 80's and 90's,
I used a small 2" by 3" Sony pocket stereo receiver, to listen with,

And something like this to transmit the audio from the radio with,

I eventually traded the sony el-cheapo unit to the "Worktunes" unit
where it is a headset with hearing protection 20+ db of silencing, and a
FM tuner inside,

Worked Great!

Tom, I’ve been searching occasionally for “transmitters” to plug into the
radio’s headphone jack. What are you using?
Also, how much time are you getting? I’d like to use them for contesting, so
more than a few hours is needed. Maybe I just get 2-3 pair and swap them like Nascar
tires, hi hi.
tnx

Hi Gary.
I am using a pair of wireless headphones my wife got from Radio Shack about
5 years ago as a Christmas present. Best resent I ever got. I love them.
There is no delay at all and they work just as well or better than the ones
I have with the cord.
I am hard of hearing and wear hearing aids and with regular headphones, I
can't wear them without all sorts of squeals and burps. With the wireless
ones, I can take my hearing aids out and set the volume on the headphones
to a comfortable level with out the 'aids. That is really nice.
I put a piece of velcro on the side of the headphones, and a piece on the
boom mic that I use, When I operate SSB, I just stick the boom mic to the
velcro and use it that way. I don't work much SSB, so it was more like an
afterthought to make them work for phone. 73

I have been thinking of buying a pair of wireless headphones.
If you read postings by hams the consensus is that there is too much of a
delay, making CW use difficult or impossible.
On the other hand, wireless headphones are marketed toward gamers and for
watching TV ( so you don't disturb your partner). Wouldn't any delay for
these uses be an equally bad problem?
Has anyone had any luck for ham use and if so, what models are you using?
I also see that you can purchase separate transmitters and receivers so
that you can use your favorite pair of non wireless headphones. Is this a
better or worse solution? Same questions above apply.
Happy Thanksgiving
