A strict interpretation of most contest rules would prohibit use of CH
and Super Check files, because both are information not exchanged

them would be the equivalent of going into a gunfight with a knife.
Jim is helping to perpetuate a myth. Few, if any, contest rules
(apart, possibly, from WRTC) prohibit the use, while logging, of
information in the possession of operators BEFORE the contest.
In general, there are no such rules to be either read or broken,
and there can be no question of pretending not to read rules that
don't exist.
Some contests have rules prohibiting post-contest corrections,
but that is a different matter entirely.
CH and SCP files help when used responsibly, and not blindly.
