A number of years ago I did the same evaluation as Ed N1UR comparing 150 and
100 watts but in my case it was on 10 meters. Same results.
At that point I asked the sponsors of the NAQP contests to consider reducing
maximum power in the LP category from 150 to 100 watts. My reasoning was that
the vast majority of transceivers were in the 100 watt category. Someone
running a 150 or 200 watt rig can easily crank the power down to 100 watts but
those using 100 watt rigs can’t crank them up. As Ed and I both found, that 50
watts did make a difference. Thanks to the NAQP folks for making that change.
Now I would suggest that the rest of the contest sponsors do the same!
