"Why not?"

Well, let's see. In no particular order...

1. Hamvention is a term trademarked by the Dayton ARA. Thus the "circle
R" you see on the Hamvention website and on material distributed by DARA,
amongst other things.

2. Hamvention is run by DARA. Only one group can decide where it is held,
and that's them. Not us.

3. Hamvention takes a LOT of volunteers for the event to work. More power
to them for volunteering every year! But how many of them would 'move' to
NV with the event? And how do you replace the ones who can not or will not
make the journey?

4. If Las Vegas was as attractive to a large scale Amateur Radio hamfest &
regional/national/international convention as so many people seem to
believe, and as a result would be profitable to the individual(s) or
group(s) organizing... Why hasn't anyone actually put on said event?

Yes, I know about SAROC. My understanding is that when the organizer passed
away, no one took over and the event went away.

5. I would point out here the practical matters involved in running a major
hamfest type event in as heavily unionized a trade show town, but I see that
Rich NN3W has already done so.

6. There already is a hamfest in Las Vegas. NVCON. Now, it's only being
billed as the Nevada State Convention, but maybe they'd be interested in
expanding. Why not ask them?

Why not?

BTW, the quote is from from Ron Cramer, the General Manager of Hamvention,
as quoted in this article:

na-annou/nr7C2/

To me, Vegas has several advantages:

1. Accessible via cheap, non-stop flights from almost anywhere.
2. Better, more predictable weather. No rain.
3. Infinite hotel space.
4. Plenty of alternate activities for both hams and spouses.

With no disrespect to those who live in the Dayton area, it is a depressing,
run-down, small city. There are plenty of better options, including Vegas.
