For those who did not understand, ''generating your own electricity''
was ironic to say that if you open that door with SCP versus assistance,
you will always find someone more purist than you to push step by step
the limit deeper until we reach the absurdity.
Coming back to the DSP sofware versus SCP data base (and its associated
logging software) they both '' help to make a contact through QRM/QRN
more quickly than I otherwise would have been able to do purely by
myself'' and they are both containing knowledge from other people and
often generated by others.
Then as this argument is very disturbing one can try to make a
distinction introducing the notion of callsign signature file in favor
of database (versus noise signature file for the DSP).
Technically, the callsign history file helps your brain to decode better
because it changes the probability you have to decode a signal rather
than an other one as you are doing an autocorrelation with your brain.
The DSP does the autocorrelation for you, it is then even worst in term
of operating skill help.
But in the imagination of the operator as he does not know what is
happening inside the radio that fact cannot hurt his consciousness. On
the other hand it is obviously not the case of a callsign listing on the
screen in front of the eyes giving to some the feeling of cheating.
Personally I do not make any distinction between all those helps, I just
respect the rules as every competitor are on the same advantage. Many
sponsors have even never created a different category between assisted
and non-assisted that save many debates and many wasted time to detect
cheaters.

This has nothing to do with "good old times addicts". Slurs like

simply a point of view on a spirit-of-the-rule interpretation. I've
operated many contests in an assisted category, and I've operated even
more contests using SCP. I can say with some experience, though, that
on occasion SCP helped me make a contact through QRM/QRN more quickly
than I otherwise would have been able to do purely by myself. I can
get a fill on a the last letter or two of a JA callsign with greater
than 90% assurance that it is accurate ... even if I don't hear it.
I used the term "inappropriate" in my original post. Using SCP is
perfectly legal in almost every contest, and as I say I've used it
myself. I just happen to agree with K6TU that it feels inappropriate
when I'm operating unassisted.

Yes... while I am transmitting, somewhere people are working at
producing my electricity so they are assisting me.
Not mentioning my wife bringing my sandwich during the contest that
is even worst that ''assisted'' we are directly jumping to
''multiop'' category.
Actually what you want guys is to come back to 60's just with just a
tube radio, a pen and sheets of paper to be allowed to enter in non
assisted category.
BTW what about the guy who rent a station and just have to put his
butt in the chair ? Is he assisted ?
