If one is to do distance weighted, scoring, keep in mind that with computers
doing the scoring, there is no need to have integer values for QSO points.
I've suggested over the years that distance weighted scoring should give QSO
points in the form of:
Points = 1 + (D/K)
Where D = distance between zones and K= a constant, which determines the
weighting factor.
Off the top of my head I'd suggest K=5000 Km. So same zone qsos would be worth
one point, qsos to the antipodes about 5 points.
I don't have the programming skills to rescore public logs, nor do I have a big
dog in this fight, but I'd invite anybody to give this a try. It would be very
easy to diddle with the value of K to see if there is any value that lets ZL or
W6 come close to winning. My guess is that there is not: just too many
multipliers are too far away from these places to work on the low bands.

Subject: [CQ-Contest] Distance-Based Scoring
Hi Mark,
I think this is definitely a good idea and it is easy to
implement.
Working 10 AF stations is more difficult (for anyone anywhere in the
world) than working 100 EU or NA.
We could have some points distribution like
that :
- same continent : 1 point
- EU/NA : 2 points
- OC/AS : 4 points
- AF : 6
points
The problem is that is not "balancing" the score for ZL or ZS stations
who would even have less points for working NA/EU stations.
Perhaps different
point distribution tables depending on where from you are could do the
trick.

Yan.
