Yes it seems to be getting worse. I was pestered by mostly W/K callers all
weekend even when I operated outside the W/K band. I responded by "please
no north america" and most left, with only a couple grumbling. As I pointed
out on the top band reflector, the source of the problem is these big guns
working these stations as you say. It just encourages them to believe
everybody works everybody. It is especially irritating when you are trying
to copy a weak EU station and this loud W keeps calling. I find it is a
PITA to log these guys as I have done sometimes in the past.
One 6 station started calling "cq no contest" on the frequency I was using
for at least 10-15 minutes without a contact. Am not sure what his point
was. Maybe he was unhappy I didn't work him.

I get occasional W/VE callers in the ARRL DX contests. Especially on SSB it
is easy to politely tell these folks we can't work each other in this
contest. When I do that they often thank me for telling them. I'm amazed
that many of the big guns work these guys as if they count. That just
perpetuates the problem and they go off looking for another contact. Maybe
it is slightly quicker to do that on CW rather than explain we can't work
each other but certainly not on phone. All of us benefit if we let these
neophytes know they need to be working DX. Hey - at least they are trying
to participate rather than sitting out there griping about the contesters.
