The sprint rules with the QSY rule were from the beginning. Many contest
change the rules over the years, inlcuding.
The exchange for SS once included the time of the QSO...lots of others for
this popular one. (http://www.qsl.net/nu0q/sshist.htm)
The assisted was separate from the non-assisted class in WAE.
There were limits as to how many DL, G station you could work in ARRLDX.
Multi single rules have been changed over the years for the CQ sponsored
contests.
10-10 contests do not allow for the plaque winner to be a non-member
Bottom line: Rules change in contests over the years, like them or not.
We have the option of petition, operating with the new rules or not
participating.
Although not perfect, the rule change is a step in the right direction.

Sprint was designed around the QSY rule. WPX was not. This is a poor
comparison.
