No, I think it is more elastic than that. Whenever you start, the
24-hour clock starts running. Each time you take a break of 60 minutes
or more, the clock stops for the duration of that break, then re-starts
when you do. Once you accrue 24 hours this way, that's all that counts
for the Classic overlay, even if you go on operating. The additional
time *will* count toward your total, non-Overlay score, though.

maybe I'm reading it wrong, but I read it as the first 24 hours of
operating.....so if I don't start until 1100z, I can go until 1100Z the
following day, right ?

I think the First 24 would be a drag for the USA West Coast, where
you'd
still have to be home from work and ready to go by 4 pm local on Friday (for
CW - 5 pm local daylight time for SSB).
If anything, the *Last* 24 sounds better - providing an influx of second
day fresh meat for the rest of us. (Though not so good in EU or Asia)
If desirable to have at least regional competition running concurrently,
have a start time by zone, roughly from local sunrise Saturday to sunrise
Sunday. That's
the least stress on the body.
