I guess only .2 percent of contesters love contesting? This is the percent that operated 48 hrs in the CQ WW. We get to a whopping 2 percent by going to 40 hours. 4000 logs is 80 people. I guess we should continue to the vast minority then?

The rules/awards/etc should be based on what the competitors are doing, not what you hope they do. Most people are not going devote 40 plus hours of their lives to possibly win a plaque and even operating 48 hours from a poor station is not going to net much of a score.

I am amazed at the number of people that just cannot handle the thought of change. Change can be good and it can be not so good. Should we not try to do something for the other 98 percent or should we continue for the 2 percent?

This thread comes around at least every year. Most of the respondents that
say they would operate more if yada yada was the max hours are truly kidding
themselves. The majority of casual contesters either do not really love the
game, they are not willing to devote focused time vs other obligations on
the designated weekends, have not put any prep into being ready for the
contest and end up spending countless hours fixing things on the contest
weekend, etc. The fact is, like many things in life, people like to
complain about stuff and when you offer to drop the barriers they find new
things to complain about.

For all those who doubt.there is a great contest this weekend.WPX SSB. 36
hours is all that is required. You can pick your off times.kids, church,
work, sleep, wife, whatever. There are categories for newbies and limited
antenna stations. Try stopping the complaining and start actually operating
if you truly think you enjoy contesting more than casually. If you do only
like contesting casually, great, glad to have you.please just stop trying to
water it down on the rest of us than enjoy it competitively and are willing
to make the sacrifices and put the time in.

Hope to hear some new people on this weekend.
