ARRL 160 cw contest
I find a clear freq on a busy contest band
QRL ??
pause
QRL ??
pause, no response
cq test de va3dx k
no response
cq cq test va3dx k
I quickly work a caller
then CQ CQ de va3dx k
when I unkey and an N4** is calling CQ test on the freq
I send QRL ? He tells me to qsy , its his freq he says....
I continued to listen and the pauses were not short , when he was
on the other radio.... guess he decided not to qsy no matter what ...

Ain't that a bit rude Doug?
Please consider that you may not be able to hear station B sending his
exchange to station A (the "frequency onwner"), because of cndx. Depending
on the contest exchange and code speed that may take more than five-ten
secs eventually.
If everyone thought the same way contesting would be a big collection of
people insulting each other over the weekend.
Not one minute, not ten seconds without sending "QRL?" either, some middle
ground "in between".

If a frequency is 'quite' for 5 - 10 seconds, I consider it abandoned. I
could care less if you are operating SO2R.

If I find a desirable QRG vacant for 10 seconds, it just became my new
run
frequency.
