One of the prime aims of the serious contester is to work as many stations
within the duration of the contest.
Working split in contests SHOULD NOT BE CONSIDERED THE NORM, however there
are occasions where working split is both beneficial to the DX and the
callers
which some have previously alluded to.
That said, judicious selection of when and what circumstances to work split
is
paramount.
There is lots of space on 10m for example, even at sunspot max. I recall
having
to work split on 10m during CQWW CW 2001 from ZC4 for perhaps 1 ~ 2 hrs out
of
the 48. Similarly working split on 80m CW from double-mult ZD8 running low
power
up high in the CW sub-band.
If split in contest CQWW is not allowed, then please be clear and add it to
the
rules but that goes against the serious contesters aim which is generally to
improve rate for both DX & callers. If such a rule was introduced then I
will
have to consider taking up another hobby.
