That only works if the guy on the other end hasn't been having trouble
picking out your callsign. If he obviously has QRN or QRM and asks for
a repeat of your callsign or report, and then only finishes with his
callsign after you give the repeat, there is no way you can tell if he
got everything OK or if he just gave up. Those guys drop out of my log
... no way I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and risk a
large penalty.
"Thanks" is such a short word to say that it has no practical impact on
anyone's rate.
