Boy, we think SO2R is a new thing, but while browsing the ARRL archives, I found this about W3LOE, the winner in the '58 ARRL DX contest: "During the fray, split 'phones were often brought to bear, each ear listening to a different receiver on a different band, with instant selection of the appropriate transmitter."
