During the Friday night practice session, we fired up N1MM at K2NNY and
jumped into the practice session. I hit the F1 key and called CQ. With
K2NNY, we tend to get pile-ups, and this was no different. When I put in the
first call and sent the exchange, it sent the number, precedent, check and
section. Example: W1TY 001 M 95 NNY. I noticed the missing K2NNY in the
exchange, took a quick look at the F2 buffer and saw #{exch}. I decided to
leave it alone and just run the practice session and see what happens. After
all, we could save the time of sending 1300-1400 K2NNY's in the exchange.
Well, it didn't take too long to feel the presence of the other station
expecting to see that K2NNY in the exchange. Also, the rest of the crew was
there watching me, and they also could feel the hesitation from the other
stations.
When the practice was over, I asked "what do you think?" The answer was a
resounding NO. Change the buffer and send it out the way the stations expect
it or we will lose more time when they ask for fills.
We feel it breaks the rhythm of the exchange and besides that, with the way
that N1MM logs in any order sent, if you miss the call the first time, you
can just type it in with the exchange and not have to send call? call?.
We had a great time but each and every one of our operators did comment that
stations were not sending their call in the exchange and it screwed up the
rhythm of the exchange.
