Along with many of the things that others have mentioned, I've found that my
alertness is improved when the shack is clean, desk uncluttered, and the
room well lit. I like halogen over incandescent or flourescent lighting...
I don't know beans about lighting, but it seems that I can go longer without
feeling tired under the halogens.
Others have mentioned setting goals, and this really helps keep me in the
chair. I set hourly goals for myself, and make a game out of trying to meet
them. It adds another dimension of fun to the contest, and keeps me going
when things get slow.
I also practice SO2R whenever I'm in the shack. Even if I'm not playing
radio, I'll put on the phones and listen to different signals in each ear.
It hasn't made me an SO2R whiz, but it is getting easier now and I feel like
I'm getting better at it, hi.
