OK, here are a couple of scenerio's.
I buy 6 4-el steppirs and and 2 200 foot towers. I have an engineer from 'Sky
High' antenna company come over, erect towers and the antennas, and to be sure
there are no problems in this weekends contest, I pay him $1000 to stay over
the weekend. Everything goes up and both stacks play great.
Then I buy 3 FT-2000's and have a tech from Yaesu come over, install 2 of them
in a SO2R configuration. Just to be on the safe side, I pay him $1000 to stick
around for the contest.
I get 3 brand new computers, complete with all the 'whiz bang' stuff I need to
operate the station. The rep from 'Blazing Speed' computer supplier comes over
and sets up everything. I also pay him $1000 to hang around during the contest.
I'm going to need some SO2R stuff, so I buy 2 each of the latest and best stuff
from 'Two Radio Inc', including automatic antenna switching, band data
interface, bandass filters for each band, etc, etc. I get the 'Two Radio Inc'
expert to install the hardware, build all the cables, and keep a complete extra
setup handy. Also keep him around over the weekend.
Also need the software, so have the writer for the version I am using build a
special edition just for my preferences. He comes over and gives me a tutorial
on how to use the software, makes up a template for the F-keys, pre-fills and
installs all the macro's, and gives me a video on how to use the program. Pay
him to stick around, too.
I hire Rachael Ray to come over for the weekend and cook and serve meals for us
all.
During the contest, one of the stacks quits working. So the antenna guru
switches me over to the other tower, climbs the tower, fixes my antenna, and
gets me back in SO2R in about half hour.
The brand new SO2R setup quits working. The SO2R guru switches all the SO2R
equipment out, including all the cables, boxes and filters (can't be too
careful). Gets me back in SO2R in 25 minutes.
The FT-2000's are still new, so one of them has a problem. My Yaesu guru
quickly switches out the radio for the spare I bought. I was actually not able
to operate SO2R for about 15 minutes there.
I am not using packet or any spotting.
What class am I in?
Scenerio 2.
Using an FT-840, TS-430, and a 130 foot zepp antenna. Got one old computer and
a home-brew SO2R box, including all the home-brew cables. Made up some stubs
from some old coax I had out in the garage.
Got some freeware contesting software I downloaded off the internet. Downloaded
it a week ahead of the contest and spent the week learning how to use it.
My buddy comes on frequency and says "VE8XX" is up 7." I work him.
What class am I in?
