Nothing wrong with the Mark V or Mark V Field, they're essentially the
much the same rig as the "original" MP. In fact, check the Sherwood
Engineering web page and you'll see that the MP and Mark V Field have
exactly the same RX performance. Lots of people mistakenly assume that
the MP is better, because it had better numbers than the Mark V or Field
in the ARRL review. What these people don't realize is that the numbers
from the MP review were taken with cascaded filters, while those for the
Mark V and Field were taken with no optional filters. Some people don't
like that Yaesu changed the way you select filters on the Mark V, but
the VRF, IDBT and improved notch make the Mark V a better rig to me.
I think people don't use the SDR-1000 because it relies on a computer to
operate. The possiblity of RF problems, etc, is just too much of a
headache. Also, the SDR-1000 doesn't have dual receive.
