Well neither does dual receive, which is a bonus in the FT1000 series. I
would seriously doubt that either comes close to the FT1000 in performance,
although I have heard nice things about the FT920, especially if you do some
of the INRAD mods, and put the dual filter board in it. There is a reason
why some rigs cost more than others, and the Icom 718 is an economical rig,
which probably makes it fine for casual operating, but I suspect that the
front end would collapse in a contest.
If you want a good economical contest rig, get a Kenwood TS850, TS940 or an
Icom 761 or 765.
