That's valid reasoning, as far as it goes.

But how about the teenager (with non-ham parents) just getting started in
ham radio and contesting, or the "empty nester" or retireee who has had ham
radio on the back burner for many years, and is just now finding the time
(or funds) to get serious about contesting.
