If your contest station is out in the sticks with no phone line, you may be interested in using WireLess LAN. Article in ComputerWorld about San Diego County HPWREN network for seismic data collection describes a connection with 1 watt 2.4GHZ 802.11b WLAN and 2 foot parabolic antennas to connect San Clemente Island across a 72 mile path. The 11 Mbit/sec rate of 802.11b was cut to 1 Mbit/sec by the extreme path length. Barry, W5GN |
