Evidently you had reached a level of proficiency that made that possible.
Just having ordinary (non contest) QSOs is another method of increasing CW
profiency. How about a guy who is just at the stage of learning the alphabet
in terms of dits and dahs, by your arguement he too should be using contests
to improve.
