A mild (fairly slow velocity) interplanetary shock was observed passing
the ACE spacecraft near 21:42 UTC (4:42 pm EST) on 29 March. The source is
not clear at the present time, but may be related to a coronal hole based
disturbance. More will be known over the ensuing hours as the
characteristics of this disturbance become better established. In any event,
there is an increased potential for periods of enhanced auroral activity
over the next 24 hours. Middle latitude observers should be alert for
periods of favorable conditions. Odds are against significant middle
latitude observations of activity due to the near-full phase of the moon.
