I think I have the SO2R thing pretty well in hand,
and I have to totally disagree with that.

I stack the radios on the left. Either radio can
be the run radio. I can put either radio in either
ear for run or S&P, or I can listen to both radios
in both ears or one radio in both ears without any
mental confusion over which is which. If the radios
are side by side, you always have to have the left
radio in the left ear, and the right in the right
ear. Try running two rigs with the left rig audio
on the right ear and vice versa. Ugh!

Stacked, either radio can be 'run' and you can
configure the rx audio any way your head needs to
process it, and my right hand is always free to type,
send with paddle, eat, or fiddle with other gear as
needed.

A question was raised about arm fatigue with stacked
rigs - the other thing I do is have radios right
up against the edge of the operating desk. I mean,
like 4 inches from the edge. Tune the top radio
by putting the left elbow on the table and have your
arm straight up. Bottom radio, push the chair back
a few inches, rest elbow on the chair armrest and
turn the knobs. Arms never get tired, even going
all weekend.

My opinion. Your mileage may vary!

IARU HF - coming soon to a band near you.
