I believe you're reading the part discussing a higher class licensee
operating at a Novice Field Day operation.
This is not discussing a "free" Novice/Tech station that is attached
to a 2A or higher operation.
This discussion, while accurate is certainly an unlikely scenario.

Just read through the downloadable "FD" packet provided by the ARRL
http://www.arrl.org/contests/announcements/fd/ (see page 20)
and found an interesting addition to our discussion regarding the
Novice/Tech + station at Field Day. According to the FAQs, a higher
class op CAN operate the N/T station. Am I reading this wrongly, have
things changed, or was there just a temporary memory lapse on the part
of the writer?
