Wally,
Thanks for your post. This is a topic which, from time to time, has
been tossed about then promptly disposed of. I think it is a good idea-
Many groups would like to participate in the bigger contests, but need
to start out without the huge $$$ investment- just some guys getting
together to learn the ropes.
Our group in Winston-Salem Has done CQWW since 1990- the first 5 years
without amps- In the last 5 years, we have continued to improve both
under W4NC and W4WS, 3 different QTH's, and have gone through many
operators. We know that no matter how hard we try, we will never get a
piece of paper, or even better than a 4th place finish in 4 land. We
dont have the hardware. Nothing above 40 feet, except at one QTH where
the noise on 4 bands is s9 with a 70' tower. We simply wont receive any
recognition for the effort.(We still have a ball!)
However, a low power cateogry in M/S will create more teams, because it
can be done ANYWHERE! Any QTH can set up 2 antennas and attempt to be
competitive. More teams, more contesters, more competition. You will
certainly create a welcoming entrance into the world of Contesting
(especially M/S) for many groups. I've always enjoyed the group effort
and rarely operate contests alone (except this past ARRL SSB for the
first time, and some QSO parties.) Its fun, and you learn so much by
bouncing ideas/strategies off each other. (A bit of sleep doesnt hurt
either, hi.) Its no fun hi-fiving alone when you bust through a pileup
for a new one.
I welcome the new category- It can only help create more participants
for contesting!

Hello ,
=20
I am currently considering to sponsor a plaque for the category
which at present is not included either in CQWW or CQWPX
contests - Multi-Single LOW POWER.( of course if any of
contest managers or committees agree to have such plaque
listed ).
Since there are a lot of guys who can not afford a big amplifiers
or can not devote a whole weekend to a given contest I decided
to try to convince them to "go for it" and have fun making some
QSOs and giving the others few more points, without the need to
be the strongest station on the bands or having to stay awake
for long hours.Getting older myself I have realised it's a great fun to
be able to take part in the contest while being in a company of
your friends. No big investments plus a good company would
mean a lot of fun for many hams who earlier were not keen on=20
taking part because of the money and time involved in a=20
serious SO or MO participation?

Before taking my final decision I would like to hear your comments
on my idea. Do you think this plaque will help to get more little
pistols into the game and to increase fun for everyone ?
Please, also tell me your prefference - CQWW (SSB) or=20
CQWPX (SSB) ?

Looking forward to hearing from you.
