The idea of higher points for qsos across continental lines has clear
problems as has been outlined here in the latest outbreak of this topic.
There is, however, a way to largely correct this inequity without the
complexity of a total distance based scoring system:
Give higher points for qsos outside one's ITU region.
This way there is at least an ocean's worth of distance required for extra
points, disregarding the point proving exceptions of sparsely populated
places like far eastern UA0-KL7, central UA0-South Asia/JA, or the Persian
Gulf.
