There were only three contesters who took the time to share their strategies
for moving multipliers in NAQP, Thanks to KI7Y, K1VUT and N6RT.

Here's a summary of their comments:

1. Pick a frequency high (or low) in the band away from the majority of the
contest (and other) activity. This may be difficult on 40 and 80 meters.

2. Keep your second VFO or a memory set to a move frequency so you only
have to flip a switch or hit a button to take a quick listen and see
if its busy.

3. It's not a crime to make a guy wait a few seconds while you find a clear
frequency on another band.

4. When moving guys to 40, try to pick a frequency that doesn't end in
0 or 5 kHz (ie: 7213, 7238, but not 7250 or 7225) since broadcast stations
often use "even" frequencies. Also be careful when moving guys to 40 at
the top or bottom of the hour as this is usually when broadcast fires up.

5. Having your radio interfaced to your logging program will relieve you of
making an error by logging those quick band changes on the wrong band.
The interface also helps when you are asked to move, as some logging
programs (ie, TRLog) will allow you to enter the new frequency in the call
window and hit enter to change frequency without touching the radio.

6. The ultimate strategy is to make use of all the above and have a second
radio tuned to a move frequency so you can monitor it constantly or check
it instantly.

7. None of these techniques will solve the problem of a move frequency that
sounds clear but is really in use. . . other than invoking number 3 while you
ask if the frequency is clear.
