N7TR and I were kicking around the current thread of miscopying contest
exchanges and I think I have a solution.
Have all of the logging software programs generate a five-digit hexidecimal
number for each QSO. The first three characters of the hex number would
contain the multiplier info (like state, section, zone, etc), the second two
would be random identifiers. Change all contest exchanges to just the unique
hex number.
Who could get emotinally involved with "Zero Fox Two Alpha Seven" ?

First I'd like to thank N6TR for his effort to educate us all and provide
the feedback that will help us improve in future contests!
Now, on to my comments. Like VE4GV I also found an interesting pattern
that I'd like to share. I've included some info below. Keep in mind, I'm
only a casual contester who likes to give out Nebraska to the Deserving,
and try to win my state when I can with my R5/5BTV & 100watts! This Fall
I'll have a Yagi up at 50 ft though so watch out! ;^).

Computer logging. Gotta love it!

See the pattern? Why did 9 of the above 19 errors log me as MAR (except
one ND) instead of Nebraska? Took some thinking, but it soon dawned on me:
They copied me correctly as Nebraska (NE) but logged me as New Brunswick
(NB)!
I often get the question "Is it NB for Nebraska?" 9 fellas didn't ask &
just logged it wrong. I know Nebraska can be rare in contests, and I'm
trying to change that through local clubs here, but it still comes down to
logging the info correctly when it has been copied correctly. It would've
dropped my "other logs" error rate to 1.7% if they'd have correctly logged
the correctly-copied section. That would leave just poor copy on my puny
signal responsible for the rest. Now if I can just get my copy error rate
that low too! (especially on CW! ...Don't ask!)
Tnx agn!
