The two radio question seems pretty simple to me:
Some people have more fun with 2 radios. That's why they do it.
Some people don't want to deal with the increased complexity, costs, etc.
That's why they don't do it.
Contesting is fun. That's why any of us does it.
If you want to win SS with just one radio, it will be much harder than with 2.
In fact, it may not even be possible anymore. That is the state of the art. If
you want to get a gold metal in the Olympics, you must devote your body, mind
and heart to excellence in your sport. That shouldn't keep others from
competing and having fun with the same sport, even though they may never do it
for more than recreation. Fred said it so very well:
"Contesting is many things to many people. I don't expect everyone to enjoy
the same facets of it that I enjoy. But let's not intimate that there is
only one goal in contesting -- greatness -- or that there is only one road
to success. Let each operator make his own definition of success for
himself."
Do it your way and have fun!
