I'm a bit tired this AM as no sleep in over 30 hours, an office full of
people, and just a bit cranky... normally I would entertain you with erudite
replies, but.... your primary disagreement is with Moxon, whom I cited... His
book is available through the ARRL... his most recent published work on
elevated radials (and assymetric dipoles, et. al.) postdates the book, and
was printed in QST ( I believe it was... you can use Hotbot, etc. to find
it)... It is obvious that your credentials in em fields and propagation
exceeds mine... I will assume you were attempting humor by comparing the
_relative_ ground conductivity I cited, to metals...
As a point of reference, the pair of elevated radials I described worked 76
sections / 20 countries / 700 Q's in 12 hours friday night of the ARRL
160.... so it would seem that elevated radials do work...

One of the stations I guest operated (I forget which) modified the top-ten
boxes such that whenever the switch was moved out of the AUTO position (thus
selecting a non-standard antenna) a red LED diode visible from the operating
position would blink.
Some diodes connected to the OUTPUT side stopped the blinking if the radio
happened to be on the preferred band for that antenna.

I was trying to work a weak K7 station last night in the ARRL 160 CW test.
I was CQing and he called me. The QRN level was fairly high at that time,
even on the Beverage. After a half-dozen or so tries, I couldn't copy his
section, although I had the call OK. Then this other loud station breaks
in with "AZ" (or whatever the section was...) My reply to this was "tks
but no tks no qso qrz de k4ro..." It was the first time I ever received
any "assistance" during a contest. Never heard the K7 station again.
Too bad, we would have probably made the QSO on the next try.
