i read with intrest the comments about the M/S catagory...
after 50 es a few heart surgeries my ability to hit it for 48 hrs with
no sleep got tough..... i found new fun! the M/S ---
I stress that this is fun! few of us ever make a living from this hobby
but i think most all of us enjoy it greatly.
the contest crew assembled here has grown into a close group of friends!
i look forward to the group coming for the weekend(s) and we all plan
for the "big win". none of really believe that u can win from here but
we give it our best shot--- and we have fun doing it.
i salute all whose scores are better than ours--- maybe next time...
but please dont tamper with the rules! should we ever win (doubtful)
please dont let it be because of a handicap score system.
yes, it does take a lot of work es a few bucks to put together a
station. es yes, in the M/S catagory more than two rigs help---
we use 4 here. please remember that most all of us start with
something small and build bigger.... my first tri-bander at 60 ft was
HUGH!
my message is simple: have fun! enjoy the competition! lighten up this
aint life or death!

Personally I leave mine on 24/7. :) I am running Linux and do all
my internet access, and graphics work in it. (Yes there are some
programs that are available for *nix that aren't for windows :-)
It checks my mail while I sleep and such. I have had no failures with
this computer that can be traced to either a buildup of heat or such.
I did kill a 5.25" drive, but I managed to get all my old big disks copied
over to 3.5" since.

OK. Here's another clarification on this issue. 3830 is for score
reporting and excuse making, just like the real 3830 kHz after the contest.
CQ-Contest is not the place to dump in your score or to make excuses as to
why you got beat, or why you couldn't put in a full effort, or why you are
not wealthy enough to compete. However, if you have some _analysis_ of the
contest you would like to offer (as K5ZD did recently), then this is an
excellent place for it. It's not a requirement that you win the contest to
be "eligible" to post analysis here. The key here is *quality* folks. I
would describe K3ZO's contest summaries as being of high quality as well.
