Nowhere did I say anything about allowing M/M in the contest. This could
still be a single transmitter contest. Also, no need to have multipliers
count on each band - they could still be counted only once.
Incidentally, I am one of the antenna / band challenged. I have a good
antenna on the high bands, and nothing more than a vertical on 40 / 80.
I still think, however, that the contest would be more interesting if
multi-band QSO's were allowed. It gets very boring to hear a large
number of stations CQ'ing and you can't work them because you worked
them on another band.

Been sitting in the background reading the mail on the SS modification...
I'm not sure I'd like any changes, seems like alot of the "Joe =
Average-lets
do a contest and maybe get a certificate and a pin" type operators enjoy =
the
SS and other contests -as is-.
I do 5 per year- SSCW, CQWWCW, ARRLCW, WPXCW and 1 other of choice, =
(all in QRP or 100w & below w/ A4S @35' and 80/40 wire @ 65'-best I can =
do on a small house lot). I do the best I can with what I have, and have =
fun trying to reach the goals I set for myself each test..
Here's a thought: What if ALL the average-low power & QRP operators all =
got
together (bet there's alot more of us than there are BIG GUNS! Whats the
ratio?) and had 1 domestic and 1 international contest weekend.... AND =
THE BIG GUNS WEREN'T INVITED AND COULDN'T PARTICIPATE!!!! Boy I bet =
there would be
some E-Mail flying to get an "INT'L SUPER CANNON SLUGFEST" going where =
nobody with less than 10kw and 600 foot towers could win. Bet the Q-rate =
would go
right down the tubes !
Sure the GUNS have some super stations (I drool over every one of =
them!!!),
but lets chuck the -better than thou- attitudes and have some fun. Sure =
you
can get serious, but -serious AND fun- is better.
Wadda y'all think? Do I make any sense? Or hasn't my first coffee kicked =
in
yet? I think maybe I'm like an old WW2 bomber about to enter a very =
heavy
concentration of FLACK???? C'mon you average -radio is fun- ops help me =

I've already told Hans this: At 0145Z Sat evg, W5KFT (with Trey operating)
received an e-mail from Nodir EY8MM saying that they were 599 on 40M in
Tajikistan. And I understand that Trey wasn't even beaming north!

What a novel idea. A contest for small fry. That is what I like about FD
(a non contest event....yea right!).
I wouldn't want to fool to much with the format of Sweeps. But, I would
like to see some limits placed on power and antennas for "a" contest of some
sort.
The only thing I would like to see in SS is a low power multi-op catagory so
guys can get together and train without having the penalty of not having an amp.
We've talked a lot about leveling the playing field on contests and that
whole concept is just not viable. The big guys are going to remain.... and
us small guys have to make up the difference in operating savy.

I would like to see some comments as to what happened to 40 meters around
the country during the contest.
Our experience was that the band went out long and remained long during the
night and into the wee hours of the AM. If the east coast would have been
in the middle of the Atlantic, we would have had a better score.
I am curious about comments concerning propagation on 40 between the east
and west coast....because in Kansas...40 was going over the top of everything.
We tried swtich from the 40 meter beram to the GAP verticle...no joy. We
tried going to the flat top loop on 40...no joy.
80 meters proved to be the "bread and butter" band for us and luckily we had
no atmospsherics on the band for the whole weekend. We had a 100 more Qs on
80 than we did on 40 which flies in the face of what has happend to us for
the last 10 years! On 80 meters we were using a 5/8 wave top loaded
verticle and a halfwave Long Wire (yes and it played real nice too.)
Please post replies to the contest reflector so that all can see. Remember,
don't copy this message again....

Hi All,
Forty was flaky here in Illinois. I was hearing EU about as loud as
most of the B and Q power SS'ers. The strange part was the RAPID QSB.
Wasn't unusual to hear part of a callsign and miss the rest of it below the
noise. Thought it was my RX at first. I'd be interested in knowing if
those with stacked 40 m antennas were afflicted by this also, or if the
stacks overcame the problem? Not enough difference to notice here between
the inverted V at 60' and the rotary dipole at 75'. Band was too long for
either of them.
Fortunately 80 came through nicely.
