The October issue of CQ Magazine incorrectly lists the dates of the
Ibero-Americana contest as October 7-8. It should October 5-6.

Hello All,

A while back there was a notice posted that told of the web site where the
VOACAP (I think that is what it was) propagation software could be
downloaded. I have lost the info and the VOACAP software I downloaded at
that time due to hard drive failure. Please advise where this site is so I
can try again.

Thanks in advance,

Bruce

Me to, Express Mail, $10.75 to USPS!

All my selected calls were prefixed KH7, KH6, or AH7, but all
of the firest five picks were KH7x1's. I decided to go against some
advice from great guys that a 2x2 call would be better for contesting,
just couldn'g overcome the "want" for a 2x1. Anyway will be pleased
to have the AH prefix behind me ( freud type pun?).

Well, as mine didn't leave Kauai until late in the afternoon Friday for the
big postal system sorting act in Honolulu, assume mine might be
on a USPS carrier winging on to Pittsburgh today.

I did look and look, and I could find no instruction specifying that
the $30 check be attached to the 610V, so it is loose in the envelop,
hope this is not a rejection triggering goof on my part, but I did look!
Only item attached to the form is the copy of my license. If I goofed,
will send in another app post haste!!

Yes, and the ARRL says that may mean three weeks or so until all
is entered into the BIG COMPUTER in Gettysbugh where and when
the big random number generator will begin spitting out the selection
code as to which/whose application will be the first!

73 , so QRX and now we QSX!

Subject: ARRL club rules
Message-ID: <Pine.3.89.9609211236.A15873-0100000@netcom18>

Sorry to interrupt the Vanity Call discussion to bring up a CONTEST
matter, but here goes anyway...

For a great many years, I have been a member of the River City
Contesters. This is a "Local Club" per the rules of the ARRL, and this
club has been very successful in winning local club gavels in ARRL contests.

After the WRTC, I decided to rejoin the Norther California Contest Club,
to provide them my support. I was a member LONG ago, and left for
various reasons. One of the reasons I left was the inevitable mental
wrangling that I had to go through to decide which club got my score in
an ARRL contest. When I was only a member of the RCC, it was no
question. Now that I have "dual citizenship" again, the calls (and
problems) are already beginning...

NCCC wants my score for CW Sweepstakes. Now, this isn't REALLY a problem
for me since I will be operating at W6GO, and he is not a member of the
NCCC. So, I can only give this score to the RCC. BUT, certain NCCC
folks are already gently twisting my arm to try and get W6GO to rejoin
the NCCC so my big CW SS score can go for the NCCC.

I read with dismay that the Contest Advisory Committee dropped a proposal
that would have allowed for submitting a score for both a "local club" as
well as an "unlimited club". The rationale I have heard is that this
rule would have encouraged the formation of "paper" local clubs, thus
"harming" the contest awards program.

I do not understand this. In order to submit a club score for an ARRL
contest, you have to first have an ARRL AFFILIATED CLUB to submit it
for. Becoming an affiliated club is not a trivial matter, having been
down that road. It involves submitting by-laws, constitution, etc.,
along with many forms, for ARRL review. As I recall, it also involves a
vote of the ARRL Board of Directors. If anyone wants to form a"paper
club" that much, I say LET THEM!!

I knew nothing about this CAC discussion until AFTER they dismissed the
action. I suspect my lack of knowledge was strictly my fault, but many
others did not know as well. I encourage the CAC to reconsider this
decision post haste, and allow for "dual club" submission. I believe
that a "local" and a "medium", OR a "local" and an "unlimited" should be
allowed. Don't allow submission to all three, and don't allow a "medium"
and an "unlimited".

The "harm" that CAC members suspected would occur if they adopted this is
less that the "harm" that happens every contest when two clubs start
twisting a member's arm to submit a score for them. In the past, I have
decided to NOT OPERATE rather than make a decision and hurt someone's
feelings. I don't think I would do that today, but others would. So, by
not allowing this "dual entry", I suspect that activity is being hindered.

I have made my feelings known to N6TV, my CAC representative. Let your
opinions be known as well. Now back to our regularly scheduled
programming...

73, Jim N6IG

Anyone willing now to post to the forum the list of calls they submitted.
It will be interesting to see what people want.
Also if what you want is on my list. I was going to apply via the web but
went the $10.75 route with the USPS.

Dear Stosh,

One of the really good things about living in the Burgh during the fall is
the Steelers and Mellon Bank. Many of the loco's will be standin in dem
lines with bales of apps., makin easy money, just waitin for dem gates to
open wide. As olde Barnum says, there is one born after every Q!

I guess its better to lucky than good! Just stopped by the Mellon Bank NA,
lucky for me dat family has made it a career workin dere, dropped off about
500 apps, which will be first in line, thank goodness blood is thicker than
water.

Also stopped by my travel agent on de way home, it's amazin how much some
peoples will pay to change der good name. If a man aint gota good name he aint
a good man. How come so many good men with good names loosin so much sweat for
a new name?

You'ins enjoy your new names, but when all your old friends pass you bye
becuz they don't know you no mo, you can always say, don't you know me?
I used to be %#@$^* !

Sincerely
dr. Bafoofnik,

p.s. Also family can recognize klub calls, dem go to de back of the line,
and two klub calls, go way way back, so far back that sun doesn't
     shine dere no mo!

If you sent in your vanity list via USPS express mail, enter the number on
your receipt into the following page:
www.usps.gov/cttgate/.

You should get the info you have been sleepless over.

I may hold the record for the smallest number of calls requested. I went
for K0RK - if that doesn't hit, W0OSK which I have held for 24 years,
will be back in operation and my letter to request the FCC to refund my
$30 will be in the mail.

What a great idea!

Anyone interested in a vanity contest to break in everyone's new calls?
After the FCC processes the initial influx of gate 2 applications, we can
hold a short contest to use our long awaited calls and start putting the new
monikers in our "supercheck partial" databases.

Ideas? comments?

email me and I will summarize and post suggestions.
