Ouch! Forget abt the FCC on this one, just don't let the EPA hear abt
it!

This may be a "contest", but the inclusion of power and distance points
in the scoring makes it into a different test of skill, I hope, than the
normal type event. Since it IS a party given in W1BB's honor, how about
sending 000 instead of 599 if you have to send the same boring thing each
time. That way we can all find out how well we really are getting out,
which is what many hams used to be concerned with before it all got so easy.
Who can work the mostest who are farthest with the leastest on our TOP band?

One "problem" (undocumented feature?) I've noticed with Buckmaster, it
gives you the grid square for you mailing address. Not a problem, unless you
get your mail at a post office...

All this talk of a new 160M contest brings back memories.
My XYL and I emigrated from the UK to the United States in 1957, to the
Boston area. At that time I was an avid amateur-band SWL. I can't remember
the exact circumstances that brought it about, but very early in our stay
here we found ourselves as guests of Stew and his XYL Alice at their home
in Winthrop.
It was an awesome evening. I can still remember those 160M wire antennas
spread across roads and all over the neighborhood! How he managed to get
away with that I'll never know. Right now I'm sitting here looking at a
photo that Stew took of a very young SWL sitting in the shack, surrounded
by 75A-somethings, an HRO, and goodness knows what else. On the back it
says "73 to John and Betty, de W1BB and W1DQF, Alice and Stew, Nov 1957".
In addition to his well-documented and virtually unique skills, W1BB was a
most gracious and generous person - a classic "Elmer". I think it would be
a super idea for you to honor his memory by naming a new 160M contest after
him.
John, NT5C.
