Go to the library and read the letters in the old radio journals which sound
amazingly like the email of today, albeit far, far, more courteous...
When the government banned hams from the commercially, valuable long waves to
the worthless, wasteland of 200 meters and down, many were sure it was, "The
end of Ham Radio!"...
When the regulations banned King Spark, the moaning and gnashing of teeth
rose from all parts of hamdom, "The end of Ham Radio!"...
When the regulations changed to require pure DC for transmitting tubes the
piteous mewling arose, "The end of Ham Radio!".
When the licensing structure was changed to create classes of license with
privileges based on the class, etc., the cries of agony rattled the windows,
"The end of Ham Radio!"...
When SSB began to spread its Donald Duck squawks between the AM carriers
there were red faces and bulging veins, "The end of Ham Radio!"...
When the novice class was created there was tearing of shirts and beating of
breasts, "The end of Ham Radio!"...
When incentive licensing redefined the old class A and B structure into the
General class there was table pounding and ranting, "The end of Ham
Radio!"..
When the FCC examination question pool was ordered to be released to the
public there was jumping up and down and yelling, "The end of Ham Radio!".
When VEC program was instituted there was hat throwing and sputtering, "The
end of Ham Radio!".
When the the no code Technician class was ordered by the FCC there were
breath holding, head banging, falling-down-kicking-and-screaming tantrums,
"The end of Ham Radio!".
Now that the WARC 97 will alter the international Morse Code requirement,
what is it we hear?
(All together now........) "The end of Ham Radio!" ...
Why am I not impressed by their cries of doom?
