With 100 w i do get around 1500 w on the external meter by Diamond but
on the amp it does not show more than 900.
With 30 what`s I do get only 700 w out, also I do not now if this is
grease on contact`s or dust but for the 3 time i ad some arching some
one told me this was grease on contact`s and it will go away after a
   few
   hour`s of operation.
Hv look`s good, around 3700 on rx and on tx drop`s to around 3600.
Please i will like some coment`s on these obsevation`s on my amp

The local club here has agreed to let me do my own one or two man serious
FD operation co-located with their 3A battery operation. This would
allow the togetherness with the local club but also allow a serious
demonstration operation. Haven't 100% made the final decision to do
this, but it's one of the top options.

This kind of thing may meet the objectives of getting out with the locals
and also of doing a serious contest-style FD. 73

Hello fellow contesters,
Be sure to leave a few antennas up this summer to work us from ZK1, South
Cook Islands. We'll be on during the IARU HF Championship and on the air
outside the contest period as well. Look for us July 11-21st.

There is a really nifty web site that is worth the time to check it out.
Lots of neat pictures and information about the North and South Cook
Islands. If you would like to see where we will be operating from, look into
it.
                       www.ck/raro.htm

We have been working real hard to make sure we have decent antennas and
equipment for the trip. Please try to work us on 80/160cw.

Hi. After my trip to Dayton (had a great time), WPX from GB6WW and
European Field Day as G3GRS/P I am only now catching up on
reflector postings and saw the following:

>2. For the CQ Contests there is a requirement for a paper log. Why?
>because many of the checkers do not have computers or their computer is not
>set up for log checking. Secondly, If you send me an E-mail log you tie up
>space and time on the internet. Except for a few National Associations
>(ARRL, RSGB) most contests are run entirely by volunteers who often pay for
>the checking et al out of their own pockets. Don't make them too expensive
>or a contest may go away unsponsored.

....just thought I should point out that RSGB contests, too, are run entirely by
volunteers. And it's hard work. Right now I should be keying in the remainder
of paper logs for one of our domestic contests, so

Hello fellow contesters,

I have borrowed an FT-990AT for a DXpedition to the Cooks in July. It has,
or is supposed to have a cw filter. When I switch to cw it seems the
bandpass is narrower, but not much. Pushing the cw button a second time
brings up the "NAR" indicator and it dosen't seem to be much narrower. In
the NAR cw I hear cw on BOTH sides of the carrier. With the NAR indicator
off, I hear what I expect, cw on only one side of the carrier. I have tried
switching injection to each sideband, and it is acting the same in the NAR
mode. It is presently set to inject lsb. This seems fine for the low bands.

Am I doing something wrong? I can imagine the chaos this will create under
crowded band conditions. In the NAR cw mode, there will be twice as much qrm
and I won't be sure which signal to tune to. See what I mean?

Appreciate any assistance you might be able to offer. The owner is out of
town and I can't ask him what filters are in it for sure. I think he said it
had a 500 Hz. cw filter, but I may be wrong about that. Dosen't seem to be a
very good cw rig so far. Hope I am doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance for any assitance you might be able to offer.

Hello Richard,
>From my experience, I would say you should have a near ideal ground plane
under all your antennas. Use building steel for your ground system and
connect to it using excellent connections, cad-weld if you can.

You might consider using a "roof crew" rather than a "ground crew"......hi

Our company radio system uses roof mounted towers, some 90' and larger at
several district offices. They have been up for many years. They are well
guyed and grounded. Of course they only support low band vhf and high band
vhf antennas.

Using a professional to design is wise. What ever, just do it safely or
don't do it.

Some friends of mine in JA land have large antennas on top of university
buildings and they really get out well. One tower on each building with
large mono-band yagi antennas. The towers are only about 40-60' tall, but
the height above the average terrain where the reflections take place, make
these short towers effectively much taller.

Don't forget to ground all the guy wires if you choose solid wires instead
of insulated sections. Building steel is usually an excellent low impedance
ground system. If you use side mount antennas, don't over stress the 25G.
Torque arms are highly recommended in either case. I always install an extra
set of guys, sometimes two extra to overbuild. Most of the Rohn spec's
assume commercial vhf antennas, I think. Again go with the advice of the
Pro's.....

I copied this to Towertalk so you could get some more good advice. Hope you
don't mind.

Hope to hear you on in the comming contest season from your new super qth.

I need a few more logs to finish building a Super Check Partial
database that is current for CW. Especially need 95/96 logs to
get the post-USSR calls.

If you can help, I will be happy to furnish you with the final SCP
data files. (pls specify whether you would like to pull from
FTP or email).

I prefer the logs in ascii format, but will take NA or CT bin.

Logs can go to k4pql@nando.net or ftp to ftp.jzap.com/k4pql.

I have just been informed that in the body of my previous posting I got the
model number wrong. Fortunately I got it right in the title. The radio in
question is the mobile unit, the FT-900AT. Won't be the last time I make a
mistake.

Thanks again,
