Now that there has been some discussion of the new CQ-VHF magazine, I thought
it would be appropriate to notify everyone on the reflector of their April
1996 issue editorial, "To Encourage Competition...", which is contesting
related.
The editor, Rick, NW2L, requested of the CQ-VHF readers suggestions for
contests and awards that will encourage participation. I have e-mailed Rick
and suggested that he post the complete editorial here on this reflector for
additional input. However, I have not seen anything posted yet.
Based on previous reflector postings, I believe there is some interest here
on how to increase the ranks of contesters. Admittedly, Field Day is a good
contester training ground (that's what got me hooked); however, there MAY be
other VHF-related activities that could also kindle the contest spirit. Why
not give this some thought between the WPX contests. I have an idea that I
will be working on (No, it does not have anything to do with fast food
outlets!).
Good luck in the WPX SSB. Anyone want to try comet-bounce on 10 meters?

Having his log in my hand for the CQ WW 160 CE contest 9A3A is our old
contest friend 5B4ADA.
Ivo was very active from 5B4 for several years and worked a number of
USA/Canadians on top band. He runs a FT990, ETO 91B, and a 3/8 w longwire
(only up 10 meters as of now) in Haiti.
This call is his home call with UN prefix. UN prefixes can be anywhere so
our contest programs sure go nuts.
Did not say how long he would stay in Haiti.
