As to Ken's comments regarding W3LPL as the "Biggest and baddest contest
station in the World" May I remind him and everyone else that W3LPL Placed
second to N2RM in the CQWW SSB Contest
I guess being the Biggest and Baddest isn't as good as being the Best!

Horsefeathers!!
Earlier this year I did an analysis of my logs for QSL return
rates by country. The analysis covered a 10 year period with
the majority of the cards being sent via the buro. There would
also be a large number of cards resulting from the major CONTESTs.
The numbers of cards sent to each country reflect my interest in
particular awards etc. The results are intersting and surprised me in
that my perceptions of "good" and "bad" QSling countries were not
always correct.
In the analysis I excluded cards sent in the last twelve months
so as to allow time for buro returns.
Some extracts are:
Country Cards Cards percent
Sent Rcvd Rcvd
Luxembourg 10 10 100%
Switzerland 76 74 97.4%
Belgium 18 16 88.9%
Netherlands 20 17 85.0%
England 73 59 80.8%
Austria 15 12 80.0%
Germany 58 45 77.6%
Italy 313 232 74.1%
Paraguay 15 11 73.3%
Portugal 37 26 70.3%
South Korea 16 11 68.8%
France 172 118 68.6%
Spain 158 106 67.1%
Norway 37 24 64.9%
Finland 101 63 62.4%
Greece 31 19 61.3%
Israel 25 15 60.0%
Turkey 12 7 58.3%
Poland 35 20 57.1%
Canada 130 71 54.6%
Brazil 60 32 53.3%
Sweden 56 29 51.8%
USA 1661 859 51.7%*****
South Africa 19 9 47.4%
Australia 48 22 45.8%
Venezuela 29 13 44.8%
Argentina 40 17 42.5%
Kuwait 10 4 40.0%
Yugoslavia 75 29 38.7%
Puerto Rico 13 5 38.5%
Hungary 51 18 35.3%
Japan 162 56 34.6%*******
Indonesia 26 9 34.6%
Cyprus 21 7 33.3%
Bulgaria 27 8 29.6%
Romania 25 7 28.0%
The Russian republics varied from 58.3% (Kalinin) to 18% (Armenia)
with the average of around 45%.
Clearly from my experiences at least Luxembourg and Switzerland
win the prize with the USA being nothing special as QSLs
ranking similarly with Brazil. Japan is abysmal, comparing with the
Eastern European countries and worse that most of the Russian
republics.
If any body else has a similar analysis from a different part
of the world I'd be very interested to see it.
