Comments:
- Conditions were flat on all bands. Only about two real short (under
10 minutes) openings to the west. Nothing great.
- It rained again this contest ... third time this year. We (again)
had water problems in feeds and phasing lines. It seems to get in no
matter how well you think you sealed that cable. Sunday and Monday we
did have sun and low winds. That was nice.
- It was nice to see so many rovers on the bands. CT needs to handle
the rovers a bit better. You can only see the first grid worked, not
determine of their current grid is new. We had to work them to know.

I'm new to Internet, so hope this goes well!
I'm the 1995 President of the River City Contesters. We're a Local Club
Category, at least in ARRL jargon.
We're pretty much centered around Sacramento, CA. and have, at last
count, 18 members. We're very active in CQWW, November SS, ARRL DX and
a few others.

Yes, it's quantifiable. You have to add noise with an amplitude
sufficient that when added to the peak signal level the detection
threshold is exceeded. There is a diminishing-returns effect after the
noise level increases past a certain level, and then the s/n ration gets
worse. Similarly if the signal level is too weak. The article is worth
reading.

Before a CONTEST, I always try to set my computer clock to NBS via a
quick phone call. I have several programs from an old SimTel CDROM
that suffice, but I like Timeset pretty well. Anyway, I need a program
that will allow using COM6 (340/10). All of the programs I have are
locked into COM1/2.
Please let me know if you know of a program to fit the bill. I would
be happy with DOS/Win 3.1/Win95. Almost anything.

Hi,
I have been testing a lot of software under Win95 recently.
When I first tried it, the FT-990 interface from Log Windows did not
work as it had under Win 3.11.
Well, COM3 has a 16550 and Win95 drivers use it, just look at port settings.
The solution was to disable the FIFO in the 16550 and my FT-990 radio
control resumed like before. Just click the little box.
A 4800 baud CAT interface hardly needs a 16550 or FIFO anyway!

I think we should all be extremely grateful to the ARRL for even

I would imagine that all the great efforts in the contest
are not mentioned in the the contest writeup because of space
constraints in QST. Here's an idea.... since NCJ is also a league
publication (that's geared towards contester's) why not have a
writeup there in addition to the one in QST. Then you could make
mention of records, super scores etc... Anybody at the league
listening ??????

No, the NCJ is merely published by the ARRL; it is edited by an independent
volunteer staff. This year the editor is Bruce Draper, AA5B. You can reach
