Results-Antenna Advice Needed

Hi, everybody-

I put a request out to the reflector a couple weeks ago regarding my
friend NM9H's antenna system. Thanks to WA2SRQ, KO7V, K0EJ, W2VJN,
N0DH/7, and W3ZZ for responding with good suggestions.

The overwhelming response was to stack the 20m and 40m monobanders on
the Rohn 25 (With the 40m below the 20m, due to higher maintenance
requirements), and put the Tribander and 6m long-boom on the HBX. 6m goes
below the tribander due to more wind load.

I have since spoken with NM9H and relayed this information, and he thanks
everybody for the info. He has decided to do exactly this, with a couple
of extra additions:

1: He plans on guying the HBX tower, to make sure it won't twist down
into the ground.

2: He has purchased a stronger rotor to handle the monobanders.

So, looks like I get the honors of doing some climbing this Thursday!

See ya from there for WPX CW. Thanks again for the advice.

73,

Sean

The ARRL DX contest used to have the ultimate solution for the
excessive CQing problem. It was called quotas, which permitted
only six QSOs per country per band. And that was when the
contest was two full weekends per mode. You had *plenty* of
opportunity to practice your S&P. The quotas were dropped in the
mid-late 60's.

There was even a Q signal for the situation: QFU (Quota FUll),
which has ever since meant "sorry, please go away my friend, I
don't want to/can't work you."

With the Newtoids in Washington trying to repeal every advance of
the past 30 years, perhaps the contest community should likewise
be considering going back to the good old days?

Here are the Official SquINT rules:

1. Get on the air and have fun.

End of official rules.

Everything else is left up as an exercise in attempting to read between
the line of the above rules to determine the intent of the rule.

I just love following the threads on here. So many of them are:

a) US-centred

b) CQWW-centred

c) big-gun centred

Please remember, there ARE other countries, and there ARE other contests,
and there ARE casual operators - lots of them, on whom we rely for points-
fodder. And some of the proposals I read on here are utter nonesense when
translated to non-US, non-CQWW, and non-big-gun.

Just as a for instance, how's about the proposition that no contester can
stay on a single frequency for more than "x" QSOs or "y" minutes. I'm looking
forward to your reaction when that 3Y0 or A51 QSYs just as you thought you
were in with a chance, because he has filled his quota!

And all this debate about the balance between QSOs and mults should also bear
in mind that the relative mix varies dramatically from contest to contest
and, indeed, between categories within a single contest (a single-bander on,
say, 80 in CQWW can expect to make only 140 mults at max. but will still be
spending lots of time CQing, even though every mult is a big deal).

And as for the little pistols. Many of them want to come on and have fun,
whether its hopping from band to band chasing spots, or to have an occasional
run when conditions peak, or whatever. Making the rules too complex will just
put them off altogther.

Do keep up the debate. It's very stimulating. But do remember the other 90%
or whatever, of countries, contests, and ops.
