A quick reminder that this weekend is European SSB Field Day. Please come
on and work as many portables as you can, maybe 15m will surprise us. Activity
is mainly from G, DL, OZ, ON, HB9 and the contest runs for 24 hours starting
at 1500z Saturday. RSGB gives a certificate to the station in each continent
which submits the checklog showing the greatest number of G portables worked.
Unfortunately there is now a clash with the All Asia phone, following a
change of date by JARL which was not coordinated with the IARU. Therefore
this announcement is probably of less interest to those of you on the left
coast.

Subject: Guys and Amps
One thing that seems clear about the guy issue is that every case is
different. One certainly can't say "breaking up the guys is never/always
necessary." The true test, of course, is the effect on the antenna
patterns. With symmetric guys, the SWR may not change as the antenna is
rotated, even if there is a significant interaction.
By all accounts, the AG6K mods DO work, even if Rich doesn't quite
understand why.
