In all of my dealings overseas, I've tried to get licenses paid up in
advance (and then renewed) in that nation's currency.
I use REUSCH INTERNATIONAL, which has offices here in Washington, DC and in
New York, London, etc.
They tend to charge a couple of pennies or so above the published exchange
rate, and then add $2.00 for the draft.

By the way, if you are going to St. Martin and it's not to late to switch,
go to Curacao instead. I've been to both. The natives in Curacao are
friendly, the girls are prettier (if that matters to you) and St. Martin is
earning the reputation of being one of the higher crime islands in the
Carribbean.

Tnx for the info, Dave, but we're stuck on St. Maarten. Actually for me, it
started out as a vacation with the XYL after we had to trade-in our Hilton
Head timeshare because of a baby being born. We decided on a trade to St.
Maarten and from there it developed into a CQ WW effort with KA9FOX and
N0BSH (after the vacation and my XYL returns to the US, so I should still be
married :-;) ).
Well the final answer turned out to be something different. I had sent a
fax to LandsRadio a couple of weeks ago asking some questions. I had given
up on getting a response when I posted my question. Of course, the day after
my post, I get a return fax from LandsRadio. It says that we may fax the
application and a copy of our US license to them, and we can pay the fees
when we arrive on St. Maarten. Faxes have been sent, so look for PJ8Z in
CQ WW.
BTW, the fax number for LandsRadio is 599-9-631342. There is another number
listed on the stationary which might be a voice number (I haven't tried it).
It is 599-9-631111.

Hi, Jim. It was a long time ago when I did DX-peditions to PJ8. At that
time, the fellow who runs the power station on the French side was a ham.
Alain, FG7AR/FS, lived in Marigot with his family.
Fellow PJ8'ers included K2TR K2WR W1UA K1DQV K2CZ K2SF though we all had
