I will be in the Canadian Maritimes for 10 days from July 2 thru about
July 11 - - - including for about a couple hours at the beginning of the
IARU test. Will be signing WD8AUB/VE9 and will be 20 meters only due to
only 1 Hustler Resonator. Look for me from Zone 9 about 14.028 and
14.180.
My problem is this: Someone suggested that I write the the Canadian
Govt and get some documentation to get me thru Customs easier. The
person was not very specific. My understanding was that one does not
need do anything because of reciprocal licensing with Canada. Anybody
know for sure? Do I need to get documents to get my borrowed ICOM 730
through Customs (no bill of sale or invoice since it was purchased 2nd
hand and the other owner did not have it).
Any help would be appreciated. E-mail to save on Reflector space... if
you don't wan
to share with all on the refletor.
Does anyone have a contact at the League to call if necessary to push
along the request if needed? Thankd
Thanks and 73 ... Doug Klein, WD8AUB

An easy to follow article on antenna mast mechanical calculations was
published in the Sept/Oct 82 and Mar/Apr 83 issues of NCJ and reprinted
in the Jan/Feb 92 20th Anniversay issue. It's entitled "Antenna Mast
Design" by Stan Griffiths, W7NI. I incorporated the formulas into a
simple spreadsheet and used it to analyze dozen of combinations of
antennas and positions before settling on my final configuration. You
don't have to be a mechanical engineer to follow the formulas, just plug
in the numbers.

This is to announce that the station 9V1ARU of the
Singapore Amateur Radio Transmitting Society will be
active in the upcoming IARU contest under the "HQ"
category as an official IARU region 3 member organization.
Main operators will be 9V1YC, 9V1ZB and JE1JKL, plus
additional society members (callsigns not confirmed yet).
As we are restricted by law to 100W, our score and signal will
not be fantastic (especially to North America), but we hope
to have fun in activating this callsign and one of the very first
legal Singapore multi-op stations in an international contest.
This will also help to encourage contesting amongst the less active
Singapore hams, in hopes that more local operators will try the bigger
contests.
9V1ARU will also be used to promote the upcoming IARU region 3
conference to be held in Singapore this September.
So give us a call if you do manage to copy us. You will not only get
a nice multiplier, but also be helping newer ops to become more active.
If contesting becomes more popular in Asia, we hope to eventually modify
the existing 1 and 3 point structure of some of the other big contests.
(The existing point system leaves South and East Asia completely
uncompetitive and unrecognized).
